Licensing of Sexual Entertainment Venues
A change in the law in April 2019 means that councils can decide to require the operators of Sexual Entertainment Venues (“SEVs”) to apply to the council for a licence.
The most common type of SEV is a lap-dancing club. There are no SEVs in Angus and there are no plans for any to open in Angus.
SEVS do not currently need a licence to operate. The new law means that it is for each council to decide whether to introduce a licensing system for this type of venue.
To assist with making a decision in this regard, the Angus Civic Licensing Committee is seeking views on the following:-
- Should Angus Council require Sexual Entertainment Venues (SEVs) to be licensed?
- What impact do you consider a SEV might have (such as on you or on the area you live)?
- If the council decide to require SEVs to be licensed, what matters should be taken into consideration in developing a Sexual Entertainment Venue Policy Statement?
The committee will meet on 9 January 2020 where it will consider any responses. The committee will then make a decision about whether a resolution should be granted which would introduce a licensing regime.
