Bottles and food containers

All types of plastic bottles (and plastic lids) and food containers such as:

  • yoghurt pots
  • food trays
  • ice cream tubs
  • margarine tubs
  • fruit punnets
  • and so on

go in the grey recycling bin or the appropriate bin at any of our recycling centres.

Please rinse and remove food residue.

Hard plastics

Hard plastics such as:

  • buckets
  • plant pots
  • pipes
  • toys
  • and so on

go in the purple bin or the nonrecyclable (general) waste skip at Arbroath, Carnoustie, Forfar or Montrose recycling centres.

Soft plastics

Examples of soft plastics:

  • all plastic bags (except biodegradable and compostable bags)
  • bread bags
  • breakfast cereal liners
  • dry cleaning bags
  • magazine and newspaper wrappers
  • multi-pack wrapping
  • toilet roll wrapping
  • fruits and vegetable nets
  • pouches (for example food, baby food, yoghurt drinks and detergents)

Remember: items should be clean and free of food residues. Tear off sticky labels where possible.

If you can't take your soft plastics to a supermarket, put them in your purple bin or the nonrecyclables (general) waste skip at Arbroath, Carnoustie, Forfar and Montrose recycling centres.
