Glass recycling points

We provide glass recycling points in areas that people regularly go to, including supermarkets, leisure centres, car parks and village halls (with the landowner's permission).

Why we are changing the way we collect glass

We are changing the way we collect glass to improve the quality of recycling, meet our responsibilities and save money.

Glass which is collected along with other materials is handled more and breaks into smaller pieces, which are harder to recycle. Collecting glass separately from other materials makes it easier to sort for high quality recycling such as being made into new bottles and jars, over and over again.

Introducing separate household bins and collections for glass would be very expensive. So instead, we're greatly increasing the number of glass collection points. This is in line with the way neighbouring authorities collect glass. Collecting glass separately provides us with income instead of us paying for it to be sorted out from other materials.

The map shows glass recycling points currently in operation, as well as locations where the glass recycling bin is not yet in place. 

More points are planned for Brechin, Montrose and surrounding rural areas, in line with changes to bin collections. These will be added to the map when locations have been finalised.

Glass recycling bins will be sited in time for residents to use when they get their new blue bins.

If you are travelling by car, please use a large glass recycling point if possible, so the smaller community bins are available to those travelling on foot.
