Coming together to prepare for emergencies and disruption can help everyone to cope better, particularly vulnerable people.
Helping your community
There are simple ways you can help others, either by supporting some of the work already happening in areas in Angus or by starting something new. This doesn’t mean doing the job of the emergency services or other agencies. It's about making sensible preparations so that all the skills, knowledge and commitment within our communities can make as much difference as possible when needed.
Community resilience
When communities plan and organise themselves to prepare for challenges and disruptions it can make a big difference. Dealing with emergencies such as Storm Babet, COVID or more localised challenges, led to communities responding and using their individual and unique networks to help each other and this has strengthened the approach to community resilience in Angus.
Community resilience forum - Angus
In Angus, we have established a community resilience forum, which meets on a quarterly basis, bringing together established community resilience groups, village hall committees, community councils and new formed groups with an interest in developing an emergency plan. This forum is community based and led by the communities who attend. Many areas rural areas in Angus have networks in place, and attending the forum provides an opportunity to expand their network, sharing knowledge and expertise across Angus.
Many community groups in Angus now form part of our wider emergency planning and response arrangements. During incidents, the council's emergency response incorporates partnership working with established community groups and sharing information, which provides a current and up to date picture of what is happening in that location. Collaboration is vital, co-operating and sharing information at the outset. This allows us to allocate resources accordingly.
To find out more about the forum contact Jennifer Anderson, vibrant communities team or Fiona McDonald, risk, resilience and safety team.
