Supported lodgings and host families

Host families needed for young unaccompanied person seeking asylum in Angus

Could you open your heart and your home and be a host family for an unaccompanied young person seeking asylum, who is coming to Angus? Could you offer the safety, support and stability they need after being separated from their families and loved ones?

These young people, mostly aged 16 and 17, separated from their families have faced long, challenging journeys, with many travelling for months before arriving in the UK. Now, they need a safe and supportive place to call home while they rebuild their lives.

Many also face uncertainty about their future life in the UK as their immigration status and right to remain are determined.

What does being a host family involve?

As a host family, you can make a real difference in a young person’s life. You will provide a supportive environment where they can feel safe, gain independence and learn the skills they need to transition into adulthood.

The young people may live with you between 6 and 18 months, depending on their needs and readiness to move on to independent living.

Host families come in all shapes and sizes – you can be single, married or in a partnership. What matters most is your ability to provide support and a stable place for the young person to live.

What support will you receive?

Becoming a host family is a rewarding experience and you won’t be doing it alone. You will receive:

  • Training and ongoing support to help you understand the needs of young asylum seekers.
  • An allowance to cover living expenses, while the young person in your care will also receive financial support.
  • Access to professional advice and guidance every step of the way.

Why host?

These young people have been through so much already. By offering them a place to live, you can provide the stability they need to grow and thrive.
