At risk of becoming homeless

People become homeless for all kinds of reasons, including relationship breakdown, domestic abuse and financial issues.

If possible, please don't wait until you have nowhere to stay before you get in touch.

If you:

  • can't stay where you are or
  • are at risk of losing your home or
  • are worried you may have to move out

call our contact centre on 03452 777 778 or send us your details using this online form:

What happens next

Once you've completed the online form, we'll get back to you within three working days.

Homeless assessment

When we get back to you, we may arrange a homeless assessment interview. This is a chat for us to find out more about your situation and discuss your housing options.

The interview will last around one hour. You can bring a friend or family member if you prefer not to attend on your own. If you need a translator we can arrange this for you.

Within 28 days of the interview we will get back to you with a response. This could be about whether you are entitled to permanent housing, temporary accommodation, or help to stay in your current home.

If you are unsatisfied with our decision, you can appeal.

Temporary accommodation

If we offer you temporary accommodation, the length of stay and the type of accommodation we offer will depend on your personal circumstances, and the availability of accommodation.

You may be entitled to help with paying for temporary accommodation. Again, this will depend on your circumstances.

Pets are allowed in some accommodation, but not in others. Organisations such as the Dogs Trust may be able to arrange temporary accommodation for your pet.

If you need storage for essential items, we can help, but you may be liable for all or part of the cost of storage.
