With work just over half-way through on the Arbroath A Place For Everyone project, we take a look at progress being made.
The contractor Balfour Beatty is currently making great progress and the project is well on the way to the completion date of September 2025.
With over 2.5km of kerbing now laid, 1000 linear metres of drainage in place, 7500 square metres of road surfacing complete and 335 square metres of cycleway surfacing done, the new accessible walking and wheeling-friendly route through the heart of Arbroath is well under way!
To date we’ve seen:
• Section 1 between Tutties Neuk and the Marina opened on new alignment on Monday 21 October.
• Section 3 between Lordburn and Guthrie Port roundabout opened on new alignment on Monday 18 November.
• Guthrie Port roundabout progressed two weeks ahead of programme and allowing for the early reopening of Guthrie Port (east) as a one-way system to provide access to local businesses.
• Realignment of Millgate Loan complete, with Queens Drive and East Grimsby significantly progressed.
• Cycleway construction and landscaping works well underway between Tutties Neuk and the Marina.
Looking forward to 2025
And following the festive break, work will commence to realign the new junction to the Marina as a signal-controlled junction in early January 2025. This work is expected to last until July 2025. East Mary Street will be closed during these works.
Works will also start on the new junctions at Brothock Bridge, Millgate and Catherine Street. Brothock Bridge will be the largest public realm redevelopment as part of the project.
Lordburn works will continue to realign the junction and parking area with work planned for completion July 2025.
The project team continues to prioritise the flow of traffic along the A92 using one-way systems and local diversions over temporary traffic lights. To date this has removed the requirement for temporary traffic lights at Lordburn and will remove requirement for temporary traffic lights at Marina roundabout. At Guthrie Port roundabout, the use of temporary traffic lights has been reduced from the originally planned 44 weeks to just five weeks.
Merry Christmas and here’s to 2025 making Arbroath A Place For Everyone.
