We are proud to support Adoption Week Scotland (25 November to 1 December), a week dedicated to raising awareness of adoption and celebrating the families brought together.
To mark #AdoptionWeekScotland the council’s Fostering and Adoption Team will share how “We’re here for you every step of the way” highlighting information on the range of support they offer to those considering adoption and to families post-adoption.
Six children in Angus are currently waiting for their forever family and the council is calling on potential adopters to come forward and make a difference by offering these local children a safe, loving and permanent home.
The council approved four adoptive families during 2023/24, more than the previous year, and is committed to continuing this progress.
For anyone considering growing their family, Angus Council offers a wide range of support throughout the child’s journey to adulthood and after from their experienced team.
The 2024 Care Inspectorate inspection rated the fostering and adoption service as ‘very good’, recognising that in the adoption service “Children and young people were thriving in loving adoptive families.” and “Families were well supported by staff, who were highly skilled, knowledgeable and promoted a culture of learning and development.”
The council’s Fostering and Adoption Team will also be at Dobbies in Monifieth on Saturday 30 November, from 12 noon to 4pm. Anyone curious about adoption or fostering can meet the team, ask questions and learn more about what’s involved and the support available.
Convener of Families, Education and Justice, Cllr Lynne Devine said:
“Adoption is life-changing, not only for the children who find their forever homes but also for families who open their hearts and homes.
“With more children in Angus needing an adoptive family than in previous years, I encourage anyone with questions about adoption or fostering to get in touch with our team or stop by at Dobbies in Monifieth on 30 November.
“The council’s adoption team offers comprehensive support from the first enquiry continuing through to post-adoption, making sure families feel supported every step of the way.”
