Published on Monday 31 July 2023

So far, more than 500 competitors from around the world have signed up for the UCI Cycling World Championships Gran Fondo Time Trial in Angus and Dundee on Monday 7 August.

Riders set off from and return to Dundee, with the time trials will be competed over an approximate 14-mile stretch of the A92 (Arbroath to Dundee Road) westbound carriageway in Angus.

To ensure a safe and successful event, the westbound carriageway will be closed to traffic from 8pm on Sunday (6 August), from just after the Elliot roundabout at Arbroath all the way to just before the Panmurefield roundabout on the Dundee side.

It will re-open again at 10pm on Monday (7 August).

The eastbound carriageway (Dundee towards Arbroath) will stay open during this time, but speed restrictions will be in place at intervals for safety.

A92 eastbound traffic will be restricted to 30mph –

  • between Claypotts, Dundee, and Ethiebeaton Roundabout
  • from Panmurefield Road, Monifieth, towards Claypotts Dundee for approximately 1½ miles.

Diversions will be in place and sign-posted to provide an alternative route for westbound traffic.

These will be (from Arbroath) –

For heavy goods vehicles:

Westway; to A933 Arbroath to Friockheim road; on to A932 Arbroath to Forfar road; on to A90 Forfar to Dundee dual carriageway.

For light vehicles (cars, vans etc.) there is an alternative diversion:

Westway; to A933 Forfar Road; on to U494 Paradise Road (opposite RM Condor) and then to C51 Arbroath to Hillend road; to B961 Friockheim to Dundee road.

Alternative routes will also be in place for vehicles that will not be able to access the A92 from the south (coastal side).

Junctions will be closed for access at Carlogie Road and Balmachie Road, Carnoustie; the Monikie to Barry Road; Grange of Barry Road; Woodhill Road; B962 Monifieth Templehall Road; and Victoria Street and West Grange Road, Monifieth.

The A930 “low road” between Broughty Ferry and Carnoustie/Muirdrum will provide an alternative route.
