An energy performance certificate (EPC) gives a property an energy efficiency rating. Ratings go from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient).
Certificates are valid for 10 years.
You must order an EPC before you market your property. An accredited assessor will assess your property and produce the certificate.

Once you've got your certificate, display it in the property.
Energy efficiency standards for private rented properties
The new energy efficiency standards for private rented properties in Scotland were originally due to be introduced from 2020.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic pressures, this was delayed until 2025.
The new standards are as follows:
- from 2025, any property marketed for private rent must have and EPC rating of C or above
- from 2028, all properties actively rented in the private sector must have an EPC rating of C or above
Exemptions will be allowed where it can be demonstrated that reaching EPC C is not cost-effective or technically feasible.
