You can report flytipping using our online form. For larger scale incidents, contact the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
Please give us the location and a description of what has been dumped and, if possible, any information on who left the material or the registration number of the vehicle from which it was dumped.
Where items are flytipped on private ground we will try to find the culprit, but the landowner is responsible for clearing away the fly tipping.
The council can issue fixed penalty notices of £500 for flytipping and courts can impose a penalty of up to £40,000.
Disposing of your waste responsibly
You can make sure your household waste is disposed of properly by:
- donating to charity for reuse
- taking it to a recycling centre, or
- making use of our bulky waste uplift service
Businesses can make use of the above options too (prepaid ticket needed for recycling centre disposal). They can also set up kerbside bin collections.
Paying someone to take your waste away
If you pay someone to take your waste away make sure it will be disposed of properly.
If you don’t and it is flytipped, you could face a fine or prosecution.
To avoid this:
- Ask the person or company collecting waste from your property if they are a registered waste carrier. You can confirm their registration by checking the SEPA public register.
- Ask where your waste will be disposed.
- If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Be cautious if the person or company is offering unrealistically cheap prices for waste disposal.
- Make sure you get a receipt and avoid paying cash where possible.
- Record the details of the vehicle used to take your rubbish away.
