Local Angus celebrity and much-loved Angus Council colleague, Robert ‘Bob’ Moir has picked up Arbroath’s Citizen of the Year Award.
Bob, who has worked for Angus Council for 26 years was nominated by members of Red Lichties World Wide, an online group with more than 12,000 members. Members were asked to vote on 18 worthy nominees, with Bob picking up the majority 20% of the votes.
Bob is our meet and greet guy at Arbroath Recycling centre and directs visitors coming to the site with a smile and a bit of craic.
Bob is no stranger to the limelight – in 2022 he was given Angus Council’s Customer Experience Award for going above and beyond in his role, and for his commitment to exceptional customer service.
Prior to joining Angus Council, Bob served in the Royal Marines for 14 years undertaking operational tours of Northern Ireland and United Nations tours to Malta and Norway.
He started working with Angus Council on his retirement from the Royal Marines, initially working as a road sweeper. He moved to the recycling centre in the mid-90s and has been a popular fixture ever since.
Presenting him with the award today at Bruce House, Arbroath was Colin Nicoll and Linda Jones from Red Lichties World Wide. Bob was joined by his partner Hazel at the event.
Angus Council Team Leader for Waste Operations Grant Edward said, “Bob has taken ownership of the role of meet and greet ambassador at the entrance to Arbroath Recycling Centre, putting customers at ease with his cheerful nature, while directing them to the relevant areas of the site to recycle their waste.
“We are absolutely delighted that the people of Arbroath have recognised what we already know – that Bob is a one in a million and a very worthy winner of this award for exceptional and unstinting service to the wider communities of Arbroath and Angus.”
