Arbroath: Long-Term Plan for Towns Fund

In September 2023, the Prime Minister launched the government’s Long-Term Plan for Towns, a core part of the Levelling Up programme. 55 towns across the UK were chosen to be part of the first phase of this programme.

A second round of 20 UK towns was identified in March 2024. Arbroath is one of the three towns in Scotland to receive £20 million in endowment-style funding and support over ten years to build up the Arbroath Town Plan, with local people deciding what the priority projects are and what the money should be spent on.

The Town Board will use the local community’s input to prepare a Long-Term Plan (ten-year vision for the town) and a three-year Investment Plan.

The Town Board chair and Board members were appointed in June 2024.

Long-term plan key themes

Safety and security
Interventions to reduce crime and make the town a safer place for everyone.

High streets, heritage and regeneration
Interventions to enhance the town centre and make it more attractive and accessible to residents and visitors.

Transport and connectivity
Projects to improve access and connectivity and to make the town safe and easy to move around in.
