Food for sale or supply to consumers or catering establishments must be accompanied by food information. This information may be given in a label, other documentation or verbally, depending on the type of sale. The information must be accurate, clear and easy to understand for the consumer.

Food prepacked for direct sale
If you sell food to consumers that is prepacked for direct sale, further labelling information is available from Food Standards Scotland.
Examples of food prepacked for direct sale to consumers include:
- sandwiches placed into packaging by the food business and sold from the same premises
- wrapped deli counter goods such as cheese and meats
- boxed salads placed on a refrigerated shelf prior to sale
